Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County
Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County, Inc. began with an informational meeting November 3, 2005.
With the excitment of the community, Navarro County was able to begin the process of forming an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, Inc. In January 2006 a Board of Directors was established, and soon after we were able to file with the State of Texas to become Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County, Inc. On May 1, 2006, Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County, Inc. became an affiliate! With the help of the City of Corsicana we were able to break ground for our first home on June 3, 2006. On March 24, 2007 our first partner family was given keys to their new home.
As of February 2009, Navarro County Habitat for Humanity has completed a second house; we are close to completion with our third project and have started working on the fourth house. Houses No. 3 and 4 are being worked on at the same time. The lots for these two houses have been donated and developed by the City of Corsicana; in total the City of Corsicana donated 9 lots on Gioia Circle, a cul-de-sac about half a mile Northeast of historic downtown Corsicana. The other 7 lots will serve as land for future Navarro Habitat for Humanity homes.
Navarro County Habitat for Humanity is a Christian non-profit house building ministry. We build and sell houses to low and very low income families who do not qualify for a conventional loan. This is at no interest or profit. Our homeowners must have a steady income and agree to partner with us by putting in 400 hours of sweat equity towards their home. In this way we help our community by improving families' living conditions and we build relationships that cross lines of race, religion and economic status. We are a volunteer organization, therefore anyone willing to give of their time is welcome.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
Habitat has built more than 250,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife, Linda.
